On the day Facebook began trial in India for failing to censor objectionable religious content from its site, it has been reported that its service was down this morning in parts of that country.

Facebook was down on desktops due to a DNS “server not found” error, but apparently still worked on mobile devices. Users took to Twitter to vent their frustrations:

WTH? No word on why the site was having problems, but there may be a link to the aforementioned censorship trial that commenced today. Could Facebook be putting their foot down a bit here?

Facebook was also down in parts of Europe recently, but service was promptly restored.
