Since November 16th, all has been quite on the South Park front as fans (and critics, probably – you know they can’t get enough of that show) have waited for news on the next season. With one afternoon tweet, Comedy Central, the network that South Park calls home, started the countdown to the premiere of the show’s 16th season.

The premiere episode of the new season is alluringly titled “Ugly Americans,” which could probably be about anything or many things at once. In South Park‘s interim absence, our culture has yielded a rich harvest of fruits ripe for mockery and debasement that would be perfect targets for the new season. There’s so much, though, that it’s hard to imagine how Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the show’s creators and executive producers, would get to it all. If you had your say, what would you enjoy seeing Parker and Stone attack this time? The SOPA madness from January? Susan G. Komen‘s ridiculous foot-shooting public relations performance? Whitney Houston (remember: nothing is off limits or sacred to these guys)? Or maybe they’ll revisit their old punching bag North Korea now that Kim Jong-un has ascended to the front of the cafeteria line. Who knows! That’s the best part, though – no matter what they go after, it’ll be great!

Twitter was flush with both excitement about Comedy Central’s announcement and general tweets about episodes that they’re currently watching. It goes to show how popular South Park is, really, when you can search #southpark any given time and find people (in multiple languages, no doubt) tweeting about the show even when it’s not currently airing new episodes.
